Manufacturer Provided Description
In the 226, Cobalt has found a way to deliver a significantly larger activity platform along with the bow area of the next largest Cobalt, in a 22-footer. The 226 puts its extra space and amenities in the location where they can maximize boating enjoyment. A wet locker waits on the activity platform for returning skiers and little swimmers, as does a wrap-around lounge with filler cushions for the walk-through transom. A concealed boarding ladder makes re-entry safe, quick, and easy. With the cushions installed, the 226 seats even more guests in comfort and security. The interior of the Cobalt 226 have long been a distinguishing characteristic of Cobalt design and craftsmanship. The 226 makes thoughtful use of standard cockpit and helm features: AM-FM cassette with driver's remote, depth gauge and hour meter, a leather steering wheel, tilt steering, and cockpit ice chest. The carpet in both bow and cockpit is removable for easy cleaning, and the bow doors are walk-through. The options list on the 226 represents typical Cobalt selection, traditional Cobalt craftsmanship. A cockpit table has already become a popular choice, as has the bow cushion insert. Other value-added choices include a premium sound system with stereo subwoofer, a starboard windshield wiper, a transom shower and air compressor package, an electric motor hatch, and a transom tilt switch. The Cobalt warranty is 10 years on the hull and deck, five years on the power train. A Kevlar-reinforced hull, a composite transom, and an all-fiberglass stringer system give the Cobalt 226 an unbeatable combination of strength, performance, and resistance to corrosion. The hull is totally hand-laid, adding seven distinct layers of 1.5-ounce glass mat and 24-ounce woven roving in a signature Cobalt process called Hydrolam. The result: superb consistency and structural integrity that no other method of construction can match. Aluminum backing plates for all hardware are embedded in the fiberglass. Next comes a Kevlar - E-glass hybrid, applied over critical areas for impact resistance ten times greater than conventional fiberglass at less than half the weight. The motor mounts and stringers - an all-fiberglass, integrally reinforced system - suppress vibration and noise. Of course, Cobalt's extended running surface is here, but with a reversed chine deflecting water downward. The effect: the 226 runs drier and handles better in turns. Owners may select the power train that best matches their intended uses, their most likely destinations.
